Meet Suzanne O’Brien, a former hospice and oncology nurse who transformed her calling into a global movement. While working in hospice care, Suzanne witnessed firsthand how fragmented and broken the end-of-life system had become. She knew there had to be a better way, one that treated death not as a medical experience, but as a deeply human one. In 2012, a volunteer trip to Zimbabwe confirmed her vision, and she began creating educational programs to teach families how to provide compassionate care at the end of life. What started as free weekend classes at her local library grew into monthly training sessions that now reach between 3,000–5,000 people worldwide.
Inspired by this momentum, Suzanne pioneered the modern death doula movement, empowering individuals to provide the same comfort and guidance at life’s end as a birth doula provides at the beginning. With the support of the Mastermind community, Suzanne gained the tools and courage to scale her impact. In 2020, she and her team hit their first million-dollar year, and by 2023, she released her book The Good Death, published after receiving interest from ten different publishing houses.
For Suzanne, Mastermind has been more than just training, it’s been a complete shift in possibility. “There’s no such thing as failure, only feedback,” she says. With mastermind.com’s integrated platform, tools like GG, and the encouragement of the coaching community, she has been able to simplify her business, expand her reach, and improve her own quality of life while serving thousands more families around the world.
Today, Suzanne continues to lead this global movement with passion, courage, and heart. Suzanne, we are so proud of the extraordinary way you’ve turned your purpose into impact, and the lives you’ve touched across the world.
